Embrace Life’s Paradox of Uncertainty

I just had a super interesting session with one my protege’s.

Imagine getting a great scholarship for an MBA at Cornell Johnson, and get accepted at Columbia – pretty smart eh?

You see the challenge is you miss out on all the networking opportunities that an MBA offers since most schools are going all Zoom…

Not only that, how do we know where we will be in a year from now? What is she waits and doesn’t get accepted next year?

The Uncertainty is what creates so much anxiety. With only two weeks to make a decision… we broke down what was important, the pro’s the con’s and most importantly a BIG PICTURE Plan to define what is NOW and Important vs What could be….and in fact UNCERTAINTY is the key word here…. And Knowing What you want helps you make the right decisions

We are all living in Uncertainty – no doubt about it. Each day is uncertain and in some ways some periods are more uncertain as we still in a pandemic with no end date.

Here are a few steps to help you survive the uncertainty anxiety

Find Some Stability in the Chaos

Search for something stable in the middle of the mess. Create routines, like regular workouts and zoom calls. I created a Friday night happy hour all through the pandemic… a great following bringing joy to so many people.

Learn to Live with Agility

Each day is a new day, there are no certainties in life and if you embrace change in the day, your mental state is less impacted. Say, the train breaks down, or an important meeting cancelled? If you focus on ‘So What” and live for being flexible and adaptive. Of course, todays challenges are greater and bigger than a cancelled train. Jobs and Money are at risk for most people… so that’s a coaching plan helps with building plans, goals and opportunities for all sorts of hurdles. You see the end goal never changes, when it aligns with what you want!

Detach from The Outcome

Uncertain times will always make people re-evaluate priorities. Constantly Thinking about the worst-case situation creates a reality in your head that has not occurred. Take the objective view and pencil out the pro’s/cons against impact, passion, and goals. When you take an outward look… it becomes much clearer
