In the past few decades, organizations have discovered something incredible: the principles that have been used to create enormous successes in large projects can be applied to projects of any size to create amazing success. As a result, many employees are expected to understand project management techniques and how to apply them to projects of any size. The Project Management workshop will give participants an overview of the entire project management process, as well as key project management tools that they can use every day. Working with project planning documents, such as needs assessments, risk management plan, and a communication plan will provide benefits throughout your organization.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

  •   Define projects, project management, and project managers.
  •   Identify the five process groups and nine knowledge areas as defined by the PMI.
  •   Describe the triple constraint.
  •   Perform a project needs assessment and write goals, requirements, and deliverables.
  •   Create key project documents.
  •   UBuild a project schedule by estimating time, costs, and resources.
  •   Understand and use the work breakdown structure.
  •   Create project planning documents, such as a schedule, risk management plan, and communication plan.
  •   Use planning tools, including the Gantt chart, network diagram, and RACI chart.
  •   Establish and use baselines.
  •   Monitor and maintain the project.
  •   Perform basic management tasks, including leading status meetings and ensuring all documents are complete at the end of the project.

Getting Started

Just to make sure the experience is as smooth as possible we’d like to suggest a couple of things you may or will need to get on with the course:

  • While we are happy for anyone to enroll in the course, we suggest that you should be at least managing/leading a team (big or small) or preparing for a role that requires your leadership skills
  • Internet connection is a big must
  • Readiness to learn, remember this is about you and so you need to be ready to take time to yourself and motivate yourself
  • Maybe something to write some notes down or ideas, but don’t worry the course documents can be downloaded at the end of the course for you to review and use at any time

What’s in it for me: Creating a Statement of Work is the start of a project – learn how to create these, and ensure the scope definition. We look at completing the Project Planning Worksheet and Project Charter.

Planning with Time and estimates (I) 

What’s in it for me: Develop the skills to managing expectations, creating a task list and estimating time. We review estimating resources in your project along with estimating costs.

What’s in it for me: In this session you will begin to build the Work Breakdown Structure. Learn how to creating the schedule and create a Risk Management Plan and Communication Plan.

What’s in it for me: This session covers planning tools to help you in your project planning phase. Use the Gantt Chart, the Network Diagram and RACI Charts. Going the extra mile with Microsoft project.
