With the world becoming more mobile and diverse, diversity has taken on a new importance in the workplace. Your participants will be able to use strategies for removing barriers and stereotypes and to encourage diversity in the workplace and even through their community. The Workshop Diversity workshop will help participants understand what diversity is all about, and how they can help create a more diverse world at work and at home. They will be instructed to use skills such as active listening to receive messages in a diverse population, employ effective questioning techniques, and communicate with strength.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this workshop, you should be able to:

Explain the definition, terms and history of diversity.

Describe the meaning of stereotypes and biases, how they develop, and the reasons for your own perspectives.

List strategies for removing barriers to encouraging diversity for yourself, in the workplace, and in the social community.

Use active listening skills to receive messages in a diverse population, employ effective questioning techniques, and communicate with strength.

Identify ways to encourage diversity in the workplace, and prevent and discourage discrimination.

Understand and respond to personal complaints, and develop a support system to manage the resolution process.

List the steps a manager should take to record a complaint, analyze the situation, and take appropriate resolution action.

 

Getting Started

Just to make sure the experience is as smooth as possible we’d like to suggest a couple of things you may or will need to get on with the course:

While we are happy for anyone to enrol in the course, we suggest that you should be at least managing/leading a team (big or small) or preparing for a role that requires your leadership skills

Internet connection is a big must

Readiness to learn, remember this is about you and so you need to be ready to take time to yourself and motivate yourself

Maybe something to write some notes down or ideas, but don’t worry the course documents can be downloaded at the end of the course for you to review and use at any time

 Understanding Diversity

What’s in it for me: Get to know about the related terms and concepts of diversity. We will also give a brief history and the legal overview on it.

What’s in it for me: We will discuss the characteristic of stereotypes vs. biases. This is very important to distinguish in Diversity and we guide you to identify your baggage and understanding what this means to you.

What’s in it for me: We will discuss ways to help change your personal approach, encourage workplace changes, and establish social changes.

What’s in it for me: Listening and hearing aren’t the same thing. In this section, you will learn how to ask effective questions and communicate with power.
